Creating Personalized Solutions for Real People

Ralph Carter

Brentwood Estate & Probate Attorney

Attorney Ralph Carter routinely handles estate planning for clients of all ages and levels of sophistication – from $100,000 to $100,000,000 estates. In the estate planning context, Mr. Carter seeks to tailor a plan for the specific needs of each individual or family. He understands that the estate planning and probate process is deeply personal for each client and often shrouded in mystery for many lawyers and lay people alike. Mr. Carter tries to assure that his clients understand every aspect of their tax plan. He enjoys counseling families and helping them understand and plan for long-term care options before-term care becomes a reality.

In addition to his services as an estate planning attorney, Mr. Carter regularly represents executors, trustees, and potential guardians and conservators before probate courts. The incapacity or loss of a loved one is extremely stressful and he seeks to remove the stress from the probate process, which can often compound the grief associated with such a loss.

Mr. Carter also counsels and formally represents individuals who have issues with the Internal Revenue Service – from initial examination to tax court.

Mr. Carter has authored articles on legal topics ranging from copyright law to personal tax and estate planning. His article, “The Erosion of American Copyright Protection: The Fairness in Music Licensing Act” was published in the John Marshall Journal of Computer and Information Law and has been quoted at length in various scholarly journals. Mr. Carter is a regular speaker at various local groups, trying to demystify estate planning, the probate process, and state and federal taxation. Mr. Carter is a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA).

Mr. Carter is married and is the proud father of two girls and a Weimaraner. He and his family are members of First Baptist Church Nashville. When he is not playing with his daughters or thinking about estate planning and the tax code, you might find him attending a Vanderbilt University sporting event, playing basketball for First Baptist Nashville, starting at shortstop for its softball team, or working out at a local YMCA.
